10 Feb AXA, the world’s largest insurer by managed assets
A.M. Best has published its rankings of the world’s largest insurance groups, with data for 2018.
The ranking by total non-banking assets is led by AXA, with a figure of over $1 trillion. The 6.7% increase allows the French group to jump to first place, which a year earlier was held by ALLIANZ (now second).
Among the first ten groups there are three from the United States and one from China. This ratio changes in the ranking of groups by net premiums written, which includes three groups from the Asian giant and four from the United States.
The U.S. health care industry has a prominent position in this ranking and, in fact, is led by UnitedHealth. It, along with AXA and Ping An, second and third respectively, are the only ones to break the $100 billion annual net premium barrier.
